Dougal's Markets

Harry Dougal was born, at Stratford, in December 1887, son of grocer Samuel Dougal (born London,1839). He is listed as Grocer and Provision Merchant at 17 Devons Road, Bromley by Bow between 1914 and 1921. His elder (by 9 years) brother Samuel is listed as a Provision merchant at 52 Hubbard Street, West Ham between 1914 and 1919. This probably explains the Dougals Markets reference. In 1920 ownership of the West Ham shop is Dougal Brothers and the following year they move to Abbey Road? Renamed?. Later in the 1920s the brothers would appear to have given up the retail side of the business and become wholesalers and importers (of matches and condensed milk amongst other items) with warehouses in The City of London. Harry retired? and moved to Coulsdon, Surrey in 1935. His death in 1949 at the age of 61 is registered in Croydon.
